Abstract |
Successful implementation of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program with toxicity limits requires routine toxicity tests for monitoring as well as protocols for performing Toxicity Reduction Evaluations (TREs). TREs are performed when dischargers are not in compliance with their permits, and are intended to determine measures needed to maintain toxicity at acceptable levels. An integral part of the TRE is the Toxicity Identification Evaluation (TIE), which actually identifies the toxicants. |
