Abstract
The report presents the results of a study undertaken by EPA in New England that examined 24 environmental problems and assessed the level of residual risk posed by each problem to human health. Using the methodological framework of risk assessment the public health work group developed estimates of residual risk for individuals and populations for each of the problem areas. Residual risk is defined as the risk posed by a problem, given current levels of control. Analyses for cancer risk and non-cancer risk were developed independently and then combined at the end of the study to produce a single ranking.
