Abstract |
The report gives results of a comparison of field-data-derived water evaporation rates with predictive model values for cooling towers and cooling ponds at steam-electric generating plants. The Leung Moore cooling tower model and five cooling pond models (Harbeck and Marciano; Harbeck; Harbeck, Koberg, and Hughes; Meyer; and Brady et al.) were used in the study. Plant data from 13 utilities (16 cooling tower systems and 7 cooling ponds) and for 5 water resource regions were utilized. For the water resource regions included in the study, ponds generally exhibited higher consumptive water use than towers. |
