A field measurement study was conducted on utility boilers to determine combustion gas stratification in the ducting. One of the purposes the study was to determine the optimum location for extracting representative gas samples for continuous monitoring. The results indicate that average gas concentration, velocity, and temperature, which were measured by traversing the inner 50% of the duct cross section, do not differ significantly from those obtained by traversing the entire duct. Also, sampling from only a limited number of points within the inner 50% of the duct usually yields a representative sample. |
