Abstract |
The Congress of the United States, through the Resources Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 (RCRA) and its 1984 Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments (HSWA), mandated the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop standards for the management of both hazardous and nonhazardous wastes in the country in a manner that would protect human health and the environment. In response, the EPA through its experience in field activities and research developed interim guidelines. The regulations and guidance documents will continue to be updated as construction materials are improved and as design concepts are better understood and verified in the field. |
