Abstract |
To investigate public water supply systems in the United States, the Bureau of Water Hygiene, Environmental Health Service, of the Public Health Service, with the cooperation of state and local health departments, and water utilities, conducted a nationwide Community Water Supply Study (CWSS) during 1969 in eight geographically distributed Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas and the State of Vermont. The study included 969 water supply systems serving about 18.2 million people and was designed to assess: The status of drinking water quality; Water supply system facilities; Bacteriological surveillance programs in urban and suburban areas in nine regions of the country.
