Abstract |
The report examines the innovations in disinfection and disinfectant by-products that has led to changes in procedures for disinfecting drinking water in the 6 years since the committee reviewed the potential health effects of these practices in Volumes 2 and 3. The predominant method of drinking water disinfection practiced in the US today is chlorination. The committee developed risk assessment and recommended SNARLs for chloroform and other nonvolatile by products of chlorination based on available data. Risk assessments for disinfectants or their by-products were calculated when sufficient data were available. |
