There are over 50,000 very brief entries in this dictionary, which is particularly valuable because of the large number of trade-named products that are identified. Many common compounds are characterized by their formulas and physical properties. The nomenclature is essentially that which was used in the 1930's. Technical terms such as "absolute" are also supplied. It must be emphasized that this dictionary is intended for use in connection with industrial and technological aspects of chemistry. There are several auxiliary tables, and one of the most useful is a guide to the pronunciation of chemical words, a feature which is surprisingly rare in chemical dictionaries. |
