Abstract
It has been suggested that long range monitoring of silica depletion of deep oligotrophic lakes may be one means of monitoring the rate of eutrophication. Additionally, it was suggested that according to the dissolved silica values in lakes and ponds, the diatom population will be dominated by one or more species. Thus Chalk Pond, Beddington, Maine was monitored for 18 months for T, pH, and dissolved Na, K, Ca, Mg, Al, and Si.
