2-Methoxypropylacetate-1 (CAS No. 70657-70-4) was evaluated for developmental toxicity in 25 Wistar rats per group, exposed by inhalation to 0, 110, 550, and 2700 ppm of the test material for 6 hours on days 6-15 of gestation. Significantly decreased body weights were recorded at 550 ppm or above on days 6-15 of gestation. No significant differences in corpora lutea were recorded. The number of live implantations and body weight of fetuses were slightly decreased corresponding to an increase of resorption sites at 2700 ppm. At 2700 ppm, an exposure-related increase in litters bearing skeletal anomalies (dumbbell-shaped notches of the central cartilage of the thoracic vertebrae) was observed. Maternal toxicity was thus observed at 550 ppm or above and a treatment-related slight teratogenic effect was observed at 2700 ppm. |
