Abstract |
This report is Volume I of a two volume report on commercial marine activity in the United States developed by ARCADIS Geraghty & Miller, Inc., for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Office of Mobile Sources. The purpose of this report is to present a basis for quantifying and qualifying operational characteristics of commercial marine activity at major Great Lake and river ports in the U.S. This report details work performed under work assignment (WA) 2-01, a continuation of WAs 0-06 and 1-05, of Contract 68-C6-0068, begun in fiscal year 1997 by ARCADIS Geraghty & Miller for the EPA. This report will help EPA to assist state and local air pollution control agencies in forming a more precise picture of commercial marine activity at Great Lake and river ports, a large contribution to overall marine activity, and may help in devising incentive programs and regulations to reduce emissions from the marine sector. |
