Abstract
In March 2004, Acting Assistant Administrator for Water Benjamin Grumbles sent a letter to directors of state environmental and health agencies requesting information on state and local efforts to monitor and protect children from exposure to lead in drinking water at school and day care facilities. This paper summarizes the responses received from 49 states, Puerto Rico and the Navajo Nation on actions they have taken to reduce childrens exposure to lead in drinking water. The summary also identifies recommendations made by states for future collaboration with EPA on this issue.
