Abstract
Solid Waste processing and disposal have become a major problem for many local governments in recent years. Many local officials are developing and evaluating alternative courses of action. Options under consideration include the installation of transfer systems, construction of shredder facilities, and the development of new sanitary landfills. The purpose of this report is to provide capital and operating cost data for solid waste systems so that decision makers can evaluate and assess the estimated costs of alternative options. Cost findings for 12 solid waste transfer stations, for 10 shredder facilities, and data from 17 landfills is presented.
