Abstract | The feasibility of using cheap, commerically available substances for treatment of waste waters, especially sewage effluents, was investigated. Minerals, industrial by-products, proteinaceous substances, conventional water treatment agents, etc. were tested. Activated carbon was used as a reference. Some minerals exhibited minor affinities for the organic solute phase of secondary sewage effluents. Minerals treated with salts of tetravalent metals showed promise for this purpose. Tables and a 239-item bibliography are included. |
