Abstract |
The rapid movement of land and water resources from agricultural to recreation-residential use in Montana's mountain valleys present both opportunities and problems to the residents to those areas. A multivariate regression model was used to analyze data on sales of unimproved tracts of land in the Bitterroot Valley area to determine the contribution to value of various amenities and detriments. A linear programming model of the resource economy of the Bitterroot Valley was used to evaluate the impact on local community well-being of certain policies to internalize some of the external rosts of recreation-residential development.
