Abstract |
This document presents the findings of an extensive study of the ore mining and dressing industry, for the purpose of developing effluent limitations guidelines for existing point sources and standards for performance new sources, to implement Sections 304, and 307 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act, as amended in 1977 by the Clean Water Act, P.L. 95-217. Effluent limitations guidelines are set forth for the degree of effluent reduction attainable through the application of the best conventional pollutant control technology (BCT) and the degree of effluent reduction attainable through the application of the best available technology economically achievable BAT which must be achieved by existing point source sources. The standards of performance for new sources are set for the degree of effluent reduction which is achievable through application of the best available demonstrated control technology processes, operating methods, or other alternatives. Supporting data and rationale for development of the proposed effluent limitation guidelines and standards of performance are contained in the report. |
