Abstract |
A methodology for estimating emissions of hydrocarbons and organic compounds to the atmosphere is described, with emphasis on emissions from stationary point and area sources. The methodology is an elaboration of the National Emissions Data System (NEDS), and is based upon, but not limited to, an inventory of hydrocarbon emissions within the Boston, MA. Air Quality Control Region; emissions from motor vehicles are not considered, since they are subject to a different methodology. Sources of data, and procedures to obtain data are described. Data sources include trade associations, census figures, and wholesale suppliers. Examples are given of work sheets for compiling data, and of questionnaires with instructions for completion that can be sent to various types of establishments that are potential emission sources. Application of the methodology to the St. Louis Air Quality Control Region for development of a hydrocarbon emission inventory for the Regional Air Pollution Study is outlined. |
