Abstract | Review of state of the art of combustion-product toxicity testing and fire hazard assessment. The report discusses recent fire death trends in the light of current concepts of modern fire hazard. Also considered are the relationship between the physiologic and behavioral end points currently used in combustion-product toxicity test systems and the performance capabilities of humans exposed to fire products. The use of chemical tests of smoke toxic potency is discussed; the use of screening tests or of toxicity tests as screening devices is also discussed. Guidelines for the use of fire hazard assessment are included. |
