Abstract | The procedure developed for E. coli type I in Shellfish, Benthal deposits and turbid waters possesses the qualities of rapidity, satisfactory inclusiveness and high selectivity, which are desirable in a standard bacteriological procedure. The method is based on E. coli type I's ability to produce indole while exposed to an incubation temperature of 44.5C and the inability of other bacterial species common to water, sewage and shellfish to perform this biochemical reaction. |
