The capsule report highlights the results of a program that developed a microcomputer-based system to control curing oven ventilation by continually monitoring and controlling operating parameters (including solvent concentrations and pressure). Such a system also monitors the efficiency of pollution control equipment. The report describes the performance of a prototype system at Mack Trucks, Inc. in Allentown, PA and applications for other curing operations. The report includes a discussion of the microprocessor concept, the performance and cost savings of the system installed on the Mack Truck curing line, and applications to other systems in the coating industry.
