Abstract |
The report gives results of a survey of conceptual techniques applicable to vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) emission reduction with respect to VC monomer and polymer production. VCM emission points have been identified and quantified for four types of monomer plants--hydrochlorination of acetylene, chlorination/oxychlorination of ethylene (with oxygen) and dehydrochlorination, and direct chlorination of ethylene and dehydrochlorination--and four types of polymer manufacture--suspension polymerization, emulsion polymerization, bulk polymerization, and solution polymerization. Levels of control achievable and estimated cost of listed control techniques are presented. |
