Abstract |
This bibliography encompasses a body of in-depth technical information on the mechanics and physiology of respiration in aquatic animals (vertebrate and invertebrate). In compiling the bibliography, special emphasis was given to identifying studies that deal with responses of this sensitive physiological system to environmental stressors. Furthermore, studies describing how ventilation and cough response physiology have been incorporated into innovative telemetry and biomonitoring techniques for use in environmental monitoring and protection were of particular interest. In addition, there are a few papers included that deal with the biochemical and cardiovascular aspects of the respiratory process, but in most cases these demonstrate and inter-relationship with branchial ventilatory and cough response mechanics. |
