Abstract | In this report the authors examine some of the myriad factors that contribute to establishing the mindsets and attitudes of property/casualty insurers toward climate change. We review the history of property insurance in America, the structural organization of companies, the regulation of insurers, the standards of insurability, and the capital market alternatives for financing the risks and losses. A summary of current and historical loss trends provides additional context. |
