Abstract | Cumene (CAS No. 98-82-8) was evaluated for subchronic toxicity. The test substance was administered by inhalation to rats (5/sex/group) 6 hours/day for 5 days at concentrations of 0, 2,000, or 5,000 ppm. All rats in the highest exposure group died after 2 days; necropsy revealed congestion of tissues, red fluid filled bladders, and excessive ocular and nasal accumulations. The females of the 2,000 ppm group had hypothermia and a significant weight loss, and all animals in this group had labored respiration and ocular and nasal discharge. |
