Abstract | The Byron Johnson Salvage Yard located in Ogle County, Illinois contains rubble and domestic refuse, along with industrial wastes including drums and plating materials. Ground water under and downgradient from the site is contaminated with heavy metals, cyanide and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), including TCE and PCE. Because the material within the Salvage Yard has not yet been removed, wastes still present, both on the surface and buried, act as an ongoing source for ground water contamination. Remedies for cleaning up the site are included in the report. |
