Abstract |
The objective of the study was to evaluate the use of leucocytes as a responsive bioindicator of lead, cadmium, and platinum intoxication in rabbits. Adult rabbits were injected intraperitoneally with cadmium chloride, lead acetate, and saline daily for one or three weeks. Toxicity studies established the maximum permissible dosages for the metal treatments. Leucocytes were isolated by density gradient centrifugation and examined for their ability to synthesize deoxyribonucleic acid, ribonucleic acid, protein, and phospholipid and to catabolize protein and phospholipid. |
