Abstract |
A field study was conducted in four approved growing areas on the Gulf Coast to determine oyster/water coliform relationships and the compliance of shellfish growing waters and oysters as harvested with the recommended bacteriological limits of the Public Health Service Manual of Recommended Practice for the Sanitary Control of the Shellfish Industry. In all areas, the coliform density of the oysters was consistently higher than that of the water, but the extent of bacterial accumulation varied in any given area and from area to area.
