Abstract |
The paper reports the results of a pilot test program and field survey of hydrocarbon losses from passenger car refueling operations. The objectives of the test program were to identify and measure lost hydrocarbon weight at typical conditions. The survey objective was to determine the frequency of losses in the service station environment. Overall refueling losses were segregated as to displaced vapor, liquid spill and nozzle drip losses. Each of these was measured in the laboratory and observed for frequency at service stations. The scope of the investigation is limited to the results of 285 laboratory tests and 754 survey observations. Significant factors contributing to individual and overall refueling losses are examined and discussed. (Author) |
