Abstract | The protection of aquatic ecosystems by water quality criteria was evaluated by exposing outdoor experimental streams to chlorine and chlorine in the presence of ammonia. The 500-m long streams consist of mud-buttomed pools alternating with gravel riffles and are fed continuously with Mississippi River water. Effects on four species of fish and a variety of ecosystem structural and functional components were determined. |
