Abstract |
The Shoalwater Bay Indian tribe recently experienced various reproductive problems, typified by an unusually high infant mortality rate. To determine if these problems might have an evironmental cause, EPA Region 10 performed a screening assessment of four nearby environmental exposure pathways. These included: (1) An abandoned dump drainage to a tidal slough, (2) various tideflat sites near the Reservation subject to occasional direct applications of pesticides (3) drainage from nearby cranberry bogs receiving intensive pesticide application, and (4) drinking water at 42 Reservation households. |
