Abstract |
The new substance was tested to determine the median lethal dose when given to male and female rats by a single oral administration of 1000 mg/kg and 1500 mg/kg. The acute oral LD50 was determined to be 1250 mg/kg for male rats and 1417 mg/kg for female rats. Eight of the 20 rats died prior to study termination. Some clinical signs noted included tremors, poor physical condition and convulsions. Gross necropsy finding on the dead animals showed redness and swelling of the gastric mucous membrane, lung and liver congestion, urinary retention and discoloration of the renal pelvis and spleen. Animals sacrificed at the 14 day termination period showed no treatment related effects either in body weight gain or in gross nerospy findings. |
