This report contains detailed scientific and technical information on the results of chemical and physical investigations of the operating Buccaneer Oil Field off Galveston, Texas. The tasks of the various work units are identified as follows: To identify and document the extent and types of biological, chemical, and physical alterations in the marine ecosystem that are associated with the development of and production of discharges from an oil field; to describe the fine sediments and nepheloid layer of the oil field, focusing upon their relationship to heavy metal adsorption; to determine levels, pathways, and bioaccumulation of heavy metals; to describe seasonal circulation patterns in the oil field; to determine the specific pollutants, their quantity and effects on the various components of the marine ecosystem; to determine levels, pathways, and bioaccumulation of selected discharge constituents (non-metals) in the marine ecosystem in the oil field; and to construct a hydrocarbon model. |
