Abstract |
The report briefly summarizes results of an analysis to identify regenerable metal oxide SO2 sorbents for fluidized-bed coal combustion. It recommends continued investigation. It discusses both the approach used for the theoretical study of sorption/regeneration processes and implications of the results. The Appendix contains two technical notes that are major products of this effort: 'Thermodynamic Screening of Dry Metal Oxides for High Temperature SO2 Removal', giving complete details of the thermodynamic analysis of the sorption process; and 'The Thermodynamics of Chemical Regeneration of Metal Oxide SO2 Sorbents,' giving detailed methods and results of the identification of sorbents that can be regenerated by reductive decomposition of the sulfate. |
