Abstract |
The moisture regimes of the soils on the Lubrecht Experimental Forest range from those which are wet throughout the year to those in which drought occurs early in the summer. The flora occupying the sites are good indicators of the sites' moisture regimes. The well-drained soils of the forest are recharged once annually in the spring when snowmelt and rain combine to wet the mantle. Rains that occur during the summer do not appear to be of much ecological or hydrologic significance. Soil temperatures reflect air temperatures except that the overstory and snowpack keep soil temperatures lower than air temperatures in the summer and higher than air temperatures in the winter.
