Abstract |
This introduction and annotated bibliography are designed to help citizens and public officials participate more effectively in the decisionmaking process about transmission lines. The environmental impacts of transmission lines and measures to alleviate the impacts are described--including planning and routing procedures as well as designs and maintenance practices. The role of transmission in the entire electric power system and possible alternatives to transmission--including conservation, local management, local generation--is also covered. A broad range of literature has been reviewed and summarized and recommended readings are provided for each topic. |
