Accelerated bioremediation using slow release compounds discusses the use of slow release oxygen and hydrogen compounds to accelerate the natural degradation of environmental contaminants. This techology has the distinct advantage of being passive, long lasting and low in cost. Environmental clean-up strategies that use time-release oxygen are directed at aerobically degradable compounds such as the petroleum hydrocarbons and fuel oxygenates like MTBE. Similarly, time-release hydrogen is applied to the bioremediation of anaerobically degradable contaminants including a large array of chlorinated hydrocarbons used as industrial solvents and pesticides. This book contains papers and abstracts concerning time-release oxygen and hydrogen compounds previously published in a series of high-profile conferences sponsored by Battelle. This series of conference, which emphasized bioremediation technologies, was held in 1993, 1995 (San Diego, CA), 1997 (New Orleans, LA), 1998 (Monterey, CA), and 1999 (San Diego, CA). The book will be especially useful to environmental engineering and consulting firms and their clients who have environmental contamination problems -- p. 4 of cover.
