EPA's Wetland Research Program recently produced a comprehensive synthesis of information on the biological indicators of the ecological condition of the wetlands in the Northern Prairie region of North America. On a continental scale, prairie wetlands are among the most important areas for waterfowl production and overall biodiversity in North America. These wetlands are being exposed to a wide variety of human-related factors that can impair quality and productive capacity. This document broadly describes methods for sampling these indicators in prairie wetlands and demonstrates how monitoring data can be interpreted.
