Abstract | The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been directed to evaluate the performance of various technologies for the treatment and/or destruction of certain wastes that are presently being disposed of in landfills and surface impoundments. As a part of the U.S. EPA alternative technologies research program, the University of Cincinnati is testing existing treatment technologies that are applicable to metal- and cyanide-bearing hazardous wastes at the U.S. EPA Test and Evaluation Facility in Cincinnati, Ohio. The units which have been designed and fabricated for testing are: lime precipitation, sulfide precipitation, mixed-media filtration, ion exchange and alkaline chlorination of cyanide. |
