Abstract |
Ozone has been reported to produce a variety of extrapulmonary effects including changes in the specific activity of some erythrocyte enzymes. Buckley et al. (1975) reported statistically significant extrapulmonary changes in a number of human volunteers experimentally exposed to ozone. It was the purpose of this study to evaluate the hypothesis that ozone exposure produces decreased cell survival which may be the result of premature erythrocyte aging. In order to evaluate this hypothesis, erthyrocyte survival studies using Cr51 were performed. The animal model selected for this study was the Dorset ewe. |
