Abstract | A rapid survey was made to estimate total emissions of oxides of sulfur, oxides of nitrogen, hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and particulate matter in the Providence-Pawtucket, Rhode Island and Fall River-New Bedford, Massachusetts area. The emissions of these pollutants are delineated with respect to source type, season of the year as well as their geographical distribution within the area. Information was gathered on three types of area sources and over one hundred large industries and fuel users. For each pollutant, a summary of the 1967 emissions as tabulated for each of these source categories: transportation (road vehicle, evaporation, other); combustion of fuels from stationary source (industrial, steam-electric, residential, other); refuse disposal (incineration, open burning); and industrial process emissions.
