Abstract |
This report presents the potential for loss or damage to ecosystems in Arkansas' White River Watershed and the Mississippi Alluvial Valley, where approximately 90% of wetlands and a substantial percent of other natural areas have been destroyed. This research synthesizes the theoretical foundations of ecological function with the landscape-ecological analyses, such as the potential interactions between the ecology and human land use of the region can be depicted. Several technical approaches are discussed. each of which involve the use of geographical information systems. The technical approach in this report interlinks a tremendous amount of ecological information, which is used to address the question of ecological vulnerability. |
