Abstract |
This report describes the characteristics of a proposed asbestos exposure assessment algorithm. Algorithm variable distributions are presented along with correlations between various algorithm variables in different locations (e.g., New York City, North Carolina and Montgomery County, Ohio). Available data are analyzed and discussed from the perspective of the algorithm's measurement reliability and validity. It is concluded that the algorithm's reliability and validity cannot be estimated from the available data. However, additional research may lead to the development of an acceptably valid, airborne-asbestos-level surrogate. This yet-to-be developed surrogate exposure index could be used to help State and local officials identify and control asbestos exposures in schools. |
