Abstract |
The report is organized into seven sections. Following the introduction and conclusions and recommendations, are sections describing: the three-component gas generation phenomenon; analysis and comparison of alternative gas utilizations including the processes necessary to prepare the gas for use; an evaluation of various landfill design approaches and operations techniques that show promise for enhancing gas generation, recovery efficiency and quality; recommendations for research, development and demonstration projects deemed necessary to develop an adequate data base to proceed with more in depth engineering evaluations of the various options. Overall, it is shown that landfill gas recovery, processing and utilization is technically feasible and can be economically viable. |
