Abstract | The research was undertaken to develop a solid sample analytical procedure for cyanide in spent ore, in order to predict cyanide levels that could be expected in leachate from spent ore depositories under designated treatment criteria. Three methods were tested for extracting cyanide from spent ore samples in the laboratory under controlled conditions. These methods were: multi-column, in-series leaching, representing a 36-foot thick heap; single-column leaching, recirculating the leachate several times in a 6-ft. column; and bottle-roll samples, in batches using deionized water and 1.25 normal NaOH, for rolling periods of one day, 30 days, 60 days and 90 days. |
