The report gives results of a characterization of the current state of knowledge regarding SO2 capture by dry calcitic sorbent injection. In this project, the experimental data on dry sorbent injection are compiled and critically compared. Sulfation and activation models are developed and used to identify sorbent properties and furnace environment parameters likely to be of importance. The results of the examination of data and the model evaluation indicated areas where original experimental work could be applied to resolve key issues. The experimental portion of the program developed information on injection temperature, quench rate, and sorbent properties. These results are used to define the overall optimum injection condition for a variety of furnace configurations.
