Abstract |
Aceanthrylene, a novel non-alternant cyclopenta-fused hydrocarbon, was shown to be a potent S9-dependent mutagen in the Ames Salmonella plate incorporation assay. The mutagenic potency of aceanthrylene is consistent with predictions of its activity based on the relatively large delocalization energy delta E(sup deloc)=0.931 beta of the carbonium ion which would result from oxirane ring opening of the 1,2 epoxide, a potential active metabolite. |
