Abstract
Risk assessment is the process of characterizing the risk either to human health or to the environment as the result of chemical releases into the environment from some specific site. The process of collecting and interpreting the information needed to perform a risk assessment consists of two main branches: toxicity assessment and exposure assessment. The handbook is intended to provide a description of the toxicity assessment process in a way that is useful to non-toxicologists.
