Abstract
The NL/Taracorp/Golden Auto Parts site is located in St. Louis Park, Hennepin County, Minnesota. A secondary lead smelting facility operated onsite from 1940 until 1982. Aquifers beneath the site serve as primary sources of drinking water in the area. Secondary lead smelting operations recovered lead from lead plates, battery fragments, and lead containers. The industrial operations and onsite waste disposal activities resulted in elevated lead levels in air and onsite soil. Under a Consent Order, NL conducted onsite investigations and cleanup activities between 1985 and 1988 including soil remediation, capping the site with asphalt, and establishing a long-term ground water monitoring program. There are no contaminants of concern attributable to the site affecting the offsite soil.
