Abstract
The publication was prepared to provide guidance to State and local air pollution control agencies with regard to emission control measures for residential wood combustion (RWC). The guidance is specifically directed to agencies that are required by the U.S. EPA to demonstrate through the State implementation planning process that the national ambient air quality standard for PM-10 will be attained. There are four categories of RWC emission control measures: public awareness, combustion efficiency, restriction or reduction in the number of RWC devices, episodic curtailment. A hierarchy of effectiveness and reliability of emission control measures is presented. Methods for developing estimates of RWC emissions are presented in order to apply a quantitative estimate of effectiveness of control measures.
