Abstract
Information is presented on water rates and diversions for cities, towns, and villages in New Mexico, for the 1970 calendar year. In all, 325 water systems were identified and data are presented for 302 of these systems. Water systems in New Mexico vary widely in size, and three types of ownership are common -- municipal, cooperative, or private. Rates and diversions for systems of different sizes and ownership types were examined. Median rates and median diversions were also determined. The rates varied widely among system ownership types, but much of the variation is probably due to factors other than the cost of supplying water. Median diversions also varied with size and ownership type of the systems. The information is expected to be valuable to planners and researchers working on problems of social and economic development and natural resource use in New Mexico.
